We want the best quality RUTF for these vulnerable children and we act to support local value chain, not only to contribute to positive socio-economic impacts but also to reduce carbon footprint.
As a side event to the annual PlumpyField® meeting, RUTF producers attended sessions at the VAMP seminar (Varietal Selection for the enhancement of the quality of raw material) on April 18-19th 2024 in Madagascar.
The side-event gathered 34 stakeholders from 13 countries of Africa, Europe, America, Asia representing 10 internationally renowned academic institutions in the field of nutrition, agronomy/agriculture, as well as key players of the private sector of malnutrition Nutriguinée, Nutri K Limited, Hilina Enriched Foods PLC, InnoFaso, TanjakaFood, Samil, peanut production and NGOs.
We regret that our Sudanese and Haiti – agricultural research corporation (ARC), Meds & Food for Kids – partners could not attend due to political instability.
Huge thanks to our prestigious speakers: Daniel Tomé and Dalila Azzout-Marniche from INRAE, Neya Adama from INERA™, Titilayo Falade from International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), James Mwololo from ICRISAT, Naveen Puppala from New Mexico State University, Krithika Anbazhagan from ICRISAT, Stephanie Grunenfelder from American Peanut Council, Ranjith Raju from Agrocrops.
A field trip was facilitated by Pierre-Yves Bouchaud to visit a Lecofruit farm under the framework of the VAMP project. Lecofruit, member of Groupe Basan and partner of TanjakaFood, member of RUTF producer PlumpyField® network.
We observed high oleic peanuts trials, varieties developed by Naveen Puppala. This is the second trial under rain fall condition and the first one with irrigation.
The results will complement the agronomic data obtained in trials being conducted in the 7 countries Haiti, Guinea, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Sudan in the quest of identifying RUTF-adapted varieties for local supply.
We sincerely show our gratitude to Pierre-Yves Bouchaud, Randianina Rasoamiaramanana, Naveen Puppala and Monique Chan Huot for leading the VAMP project in Madagascar.
