VAMP project in Nigeria

28 February 2024

NutriK, a member of the PlumpyField network, is now embracing the VAMP initiative (varietal selection for the enhancement of raw material)

Did you know Nigeria ranks among the top 5 global producers of peanuts ?

To align with the latest specifications of the CODEX Alimentarius and to strengthen the local peanut value chain, NutriK, a member of the PlumpyField network, is now embracing the VAMP initiative (varietal selection for the enhancement of raw material).

From the fertile fields of Northern Nigeria, we’ve gathered promising results from the first harvest, spanning 11 diverse locations. This effort is part of our collaboration with New Mexico State University to introduce newly developed peanut varieties into Nigeria’s national catalogue.

Next step: diving into the nutritional profiling of these peanut samples.

Many thanks to Muhammad Ahmad Yahaya from IAR Samaru and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Mounirou Sow from Sow AgriTech Ltd, Naveen Puppala, Abdoul Kader YONLI BOUKARI and Monique CHAN HUOT (PhD) for their valuable contributions to this research project.
